Library and Information Technologies Department
The Library and information technologies department is a structural subdivision that plays one of the key roles in the organization and development of the technological space of the Library.
Activities
The department’s priority tasks are as follow: technological maintenance of library and information activity; development of interdepartmental and interregional ties of libraries within the national system of corporate cataloging (SKK); development and use of the union electronic catalog of libraries of Belarus (SEK) and national corporate information resources; coordination of activity of structural subdivisions of the National Library within the limits of the current technological infrastructure.
Functions of the department:
- development of corporate interaction between libraries of Belarus, participation in the formation and use of the union electronic catalog;
- organizational and methodological, regulatory and technological support to the functioning of the national system of corporate cataloging and maintenance of the union electronic catalog;
- scientific and methodical work on the development of the national formats BELMARC/В and BELMARC/AUTHORITIES, introduction of the formats BELMARC into the practice of cataloguing in the National Library of Belarus;
- advice to employees of the National Library of Belarus and other libraries of Belarus on the questions of the standardization of library processes, participation in corporate projects on formation of information resources and user service;
- development, introduction, technological and methodical support of the development of information resources and user service within the framework of the automated library information system (ABIS) including the introduction of BELMARC formats, technological administration of ABIS subsystems, technological control and advice;
- technological and methodical maintenance of the interaction processes of ABIS and other information and technological systems of the library;
- development of functional and technological documents regulating library technological processes;
- assignment and administration of ISIL codes within the activities of the library as the National Agency of ISIL codes of Belarus;
- participation in the organization and coordination of international and republican conferences, seminars, round tables on the urgent issues of the system of corporate cataloging and machine-readable cataloging;
- participation in the work of the Executive Committee of the Council of Libraries of Belarus on Information Interaction within the limits of working groups.
