The exhibition “The Khatyn Tragedy. 75 Years of Pain, Grief and Memory” is held from in the exhibition area (3d floor) March 20 to May 20.

The exhibition, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Khatyn tragedy, contains about 50 documents from the collections of the National Library of Belarus, among which there are thematic directories, albums, scientific, popular scientific, literary and art publications in Belarusian, Russian, English, German, Polish, Bulgarian, Armenian, Ukrainian, Yakut and, even, in Avar languages.

The exposition opens with publications detailing the Nazis’ and their accomplices’ crimes against the peaceful population of Khatyn village (Khatyn Memorial Wall: Documents and Materials (2016) etc). They contain documents of partisans and local residents, German requests and reports on the events of that day, witness materials, acts and lists of victims of the Khatyn tragedy, as well as war criminals who suffered a deserved punishment in the post-war period.

The central part of the exposition represents scientific publications about the memorial. The history of the tragedy of the Belarusian village, completely burned by the fascists, doesn’t leave anyone indifferent. Since the opening of the Khatyn memorial complex in 1969 to this day people from different countries come there to pay tribute to the memory of those who died in the flames of the military period in the life of Belarusians. The Khatyn memorial complex is one of the most visited places by citizens of Belarus, as well as guests and tourists from different countries.

The Khatyn was not the only village destroyed by the Nazi invaders in 1941–1944. 628 Belarusian villages suffered the same fate. The tragedy of Khatyn testifies about the purposeful policy of genocide against the population of Belarus, carried out by the Nazis throughout the occupation period. Hundreds of similar tragedies occurred in the three years of the war years (1941–1944) in Belarus.

Pain, grief and memory of this event are also conveyed at the exhibition through literature and graphics.

The exhibition is intended for a wide range of readers.
