An exhibition "Colorful ornaments of native languages" timed to the International Mother Language Day was opened on February 14 in the gallery "Rakurs" (2nd floor).

The International Mother Language Day is celebrated worldwide every year on February 21 and is aimed to linguistic diversity promotion and preservation of cultural traditions based on mutual understanding, tolerance and dialogue.

The Belarusian and Ukrainian peoples have always had friendship and mutual respect. Historically, our languages ​​are very close and similar to each other, but each has its own national color and character, which is primarily reflected in folk art. The exhibition of embroidery, painting and words. Is about this.

Ukrainian embroidery is a spiritual guardian of cultural heritage, which was embodied in the Ukrainians’ everyday life and wardrobe. At the exhibition the towels – rushnyks – made by Ukrainian artisans Elena Dudko, Marianna Zhukovskaya, Inna Mokh, Nadezhda Nimko, Olga Sukhorenko, Daria Yasyukevich are exposed. All the items are different but make a big impression by the brightness and generosity of the ornamental palette.

Elena Vasilyeva, Ukrainian amateur artist, expressed in her paintings the admiration for Belarusian and Ukrainian landscapes. The book part of an exhibition Native language is the source of inspiration reflected the euphony and beauty of native words.

The exhibition was attended by Elena Dolgopolova, first deputy director of the National Library of Belarus; Ivan Bashnyak, first secretary of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Belarus; Pavel Navojchik, deputy dean of the Philology faculty of the Belarusian State University; Maria Vinnikova, researcher of the Institute of Art History, Ethnography and Folklore Art of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus; Elena Vasilieva, Ukrainian amateur artist; Galina Kalyuzhnaya, chairman of the Minsk public association of Ukrainians Zapovit; Nadezhda Nimko, people’s artist of Belarus in Embroidery; Victor Gutowski, head of Belarusian public association of Ukrainians Vatra.

The present world offers thousands of opportunities to wander, look for your place, discover new cultures. You have always to remember: it does not matter how many kilometers are between you and your homeland and what language you use. The Mother language, the language of parents and ancestors, remains the only and unrepeatable.
