On March 11, the Book Museum hosted the official opening of the exhibition "The Champion of the Belarusian Past", timed to coincide with the 170th anniversary of Aliaksej Sapunou, historian, archaeographer, local history expert, and to the 100th anniversary of the National Library of Belarus.

The exhibition was organized by the Library in cooperation with the Viciebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore with the participation of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus.

Mr Alexander Susha, Deputy Director General of the National Library of Belarus, made an opening speech. He presented an exhibition project and noted the importance of cooperation between various institutions in the study, preservation and popularization of the outstanding researcher’s legacy. He reminded the audience of the 100th anniversary of the Library and spoke about how the collections of the National Library had received the books from A. Sapunou's collection.

In her speech, Ms Tatsiana Starynskaja, Director of the Viciebsk Regional Museum of the Local Lore noted the great role and importance of the personality of A. Sapunou for the Viciebsk region and for Belarus in general. She emphasized the absolute value and importance of collaboration and thanked her colleagues for the opportunity to take part in the exhibition project “The Champion of the Belarusian Past”.

The guests and participants of the event explored the exhibition during the excursion, which was conducted by Ms Tatsiana Zakharava, Head of the Museum Activities Sector of the Bibliology Research Department.

As part of the celebration of the 170th anniversary of A. Sapunou, the National Library will host a round table on the topic "Aliaksej Sapunou: the Collector of Viciebsk Antiquity" will be held March 17 at 15.00 (room 346). An online broadcast is planned.

The exhibition "The Champion of the Belarusian Past" will be open at the Book Museum (room 347) until May 2, 2021.

The end date is subject to change.

The opening hours of the exhibition correspond to the library’s opening hours.
Admission is by the library card or by the Social and Cultural Centre ticket.

April 18, 2024 marks the 210th anniversary of the birth of Yevstafiy Tyshkevich, a famous archaeologist, historian, ethnographer, local historian and museologist. His research has raised whole layers of the historical past, he was one of the first Belarusian authors of local lore. To mark the anniversary of the scientist, an exhibition "Connoisseur of Belarusian Antiquities" has been organized in the Book Museum of the National Library of Belarus.

"Soldier's Fate": on the 100th anniversary of Vasil Bykov and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the People's writer of Belarus, publicist and screenwriter Vasil Vladimirovich Bykov.
On this occasion, the National Library has prepared an anniversary exhibition "Soldier's fate", which highlights the great influence on the work of the Belarusian writer of his participation in the Great Patriotic War.
