The exhibition "The Greatness of Music" dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Sofia Gubaidulina is on show in the Music and Audiovisual Documents Reading Room (room 305) from October 1 to November 16.
Sofia Gubaidulina is an internationally renowned composer and a classic of modern music. Her music is exceptional and does not belong to the new musical movements and trends of the twentieth century. It is a huge layer of synthesis between Eastern and European cultures, both in terms of philosophical outlook, correlation of logic and intuition, and in terms of the search for timbre and pitch combinations. It is no coincidence that Gubaidulina takes interest in instruments from different eras and peoples, and owns a rich collection containing thousand-year-old secrets of sound.
Her main area of artistic interest is chamber music in various genres: compositions for harpsichord and percussion, for organ; ensembles for wind instruments, pieces for harp and double bass, flute and viola. The composer made groundbreaking discoveries in the sound of the accordion, which in the twentieth century was transformed from a folk instrument into an academic one.
Sofia Gubaidulina is the author of dozens of major symphonic, vocal-choral and chamber pieces, author of music for films and cartoons ("Vertical", "Scarecrow", "Adventures of Mowgli", etc.).
The exhibition features sheet music of the Offertorium concerto for violin and orchestra, pieces for chamber ensemble, a piece for organ "Light and Dark", vocal cycle "Phacelia", the cycle of children's pieces "Musical Toys", sonatas for accordion, pieces for piano, flute and organ as well as audio documents: partita "Seven Words" for cello, accordion and string orchestra, "Chaconne" for piano, sonata "Et exspecto... for accordion performed by F. Lips, a concerto for bassoon and low strings, etc.
In addition, books and articles about the work of the composer are exhibited.
