The exhibition "Historical memory in the publications of Belarusian scientists" is on display from 24 January to 6 February in the Scientific Reading Room (room 206).
2022 has been declared in Belarus the Year of Remembrance in order to preserve the truth about the history of the Belarusian people and consolidate society.
Historical memory, one of the most topical and controversial multidisciplinary problems, is also reflected in the works of Belarusian scientists. Researchers from history, philosophy, sociology and other disciplines have addressed various aspects of historical memory in their publications: theory and methodology, content and functions, channels of formation and forms of existence.
The attention of scholars has also been drawn to the politics of memory, or historical policy, because it is the state that plays the decisive role in creating a national concept of the country's history, selecting the main events, characters and values of the past that are fixed in the historical memory of society through school and university textbooks, mass media, cultural and artistic works, mass events and celebrations.
A number of socio-humanitarian studies focus on practices of historical memory formation and preservation. The real state of the historical memory of the population of Belarus and the trends of its development are outlined by the results of sociological monitoring.
The presented publications are united by the idea that the preservation of historical memory contributes to the self-identification of the Belarusian people, fosters patriotism and a sense of pride in the heroic past.
The opening hours of the exhibition correspond to the library’s opening hours.
Admission is by the library card or by the Social and Cultural Centre ticket.
