On September 12, within the framework of the Days of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan in the Republic of Belarus, the National Library of Belarus hosted the opening of the book exhibition "The Republic of Tatarstan: books in the space of culture".
Anatoly Markevich, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, and Irada Ayupova, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Tatarstan, delivered a welcoming speech at the opening of the exhibition. The event was also attended by Director General of the National Library of Belarus Vadzim Hihin, Director of the National Library of the Republic of Tatarstan Madina Timerzyanova, the representatives of the creative intelligentsia and the library community.
The exhibition presents more than 150 books: from encyclopedic to reprint editions. The collection is compiled in such a way that visitors can get extensive knowledge about the history of the Tatars and Tatarstan from ancient times to modern history, about famous Tatar personalities who made a significant contribution to the development of the Russian Federation, as well as about famous people who served the prosperity of Tatarstan.
There are albums about the richest museum collections of Tatarstan and books about folk crafts, leather mosaics, wood carving, coinage, traditional national holidays of the peoples living in the republic, works devoted to the development of theatres of the republic, the study of national costume, books on cinema and photography.
Among the exhibits there are 26 publications in the Tatar language. Tatars of Belarus can study literature in their native language.
The books were donated to the National Library of Belarus. The collection was supplemented by the digitized originals of Arabic manuscripts in the Old Belarusian language, which are stored in the rare fund of the National Library of the Republic of Tatarstan.
Within the framework of the event, a meeting of the creative intelligentsia of Belarus and Tatarstan took place. The main topic is cultural cooperation between the two republics. Both sides expressed interest in establishing long-term cultural ties. Agreements were signed between the State Historical, Architectural and Art Museum-Reserve "Kazan Kremlin" and the Castle Complex "Mir", the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan and the National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus, the National Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan and the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus.
The guests of honour were given a tour of the "diamond of knowledge", introduced to the centenary history and architecture of the institution.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged memorable gifts.
