On April 27, the Mobile Gallery (third floor) launched an exhibition of art works by students of the I. Akhremchyk Gymnasium-College of Arts honoured to the 120th anniversary of the artist's birth.
Ivan Akhremchyk (1903–1971) was a notable painter from Belarus, the People's Artist of Belarus, a key player in the country's art education, a professor, a teacher at several art institutes, and a mentor to well-known Russian writers. He insisted on establishing a professional painting school, and in 1962 the Republican Boarding School for Music and Fine Arts was established. In 2005, it was renamed the I. Akhremchyk Gymnasium-Art College. More than one generation of competent teachers devoted to the traditional school of Belarusian painting has been trained by Ivan, his pupils, and his supporters. They help talented kids from all throughout Belarus take their first creative steps.
Exhibition "Dedication to the master" introduces guests to the results of the search and formation of the artistic role of students of the gymnasium-college of the 1970s – 2020s. The exhibition presents the works, dedicated to a wide variety of topics-learning, finding a destination, perception of reality, life, history and culture of Belarus. Young artists preserve classical approaches and at the same time correspond to modern trends in painting and fine arts, which means that the case of Ivan Akhremchyk and his memory live on today.
The event was attended by Aksana Knizhnikava, the director general of the National library of Belarus, Piotr Bagdanaw, deputy director for academic affairs of the I. Akhremchyk Gymnasium-College of Arts, artist, member of the Belarusian Union of Artists, Uladzimir Klimushka, teacher of gymnasium-college, artist, member of the Belarusian Union of Artists.
The exhibition will run until October 18, 2023.
