Exhibition “War and Peace. Belarus remembers. The Return" opened at the exhibition complex (room 104) of the National Library of Belarus on July 1. The project is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory.

Mr Viktor Liskovich, Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on Education, Science, Culture and Social Development opened the event. “In anticipation of such a significant event as Independence Day, we are opening an exhibition dedicated to the people and the events that were at the origins of our independence,” Mr Liskovich said.

Mr Igor Buzovsky, Deputy Minister of Information of the Republic of Belarus, Ms Natalya Karchevskaya, First Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, Mr Igor Marzalyuk, Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Education, Culture and Science of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, Mr Pavel Sukhorukov, Director-Editor-in-Chief of the "Zvyazda" Publishing House, Mr Vladimir Likhodedov, historian and local history expert, the owner of the Presidential Prize of the Republic of Belarus “For Spiritual Revival.”

In their speeches, the guests congratulated everyone present on the upcoming holiday and noted that the presented exposition demonstrates the path of the Belarusian people over a long period from 1812 to 1945. This format of the exhibition encourages citizens to deeply and diversely study the history of their land and gives rise to patriotism and national pride.

“Independence is the spirit that lives among the people,” Mr Roman Motulsky, Director General of the National Library of Belarus, emphasized in his speech about how much was lost during the war years and how difficult it is to collect the lost heritage.

The new exhibition presents items from the private collection of Mr Vladimir Likhodedov. The National Library of Belarus plans to purchase some of them at the expense of funds allocated by the President of the Republic of Belarus Fund for the Support of Culture and Art. The central part of the exhibition is a series of books “In Search of the Lost” and other editions of the collector, which contain unique documentary materials about the historical past Belarusian land during the war and peace periods from 1812 to 1945.

During the event, the books dedicated to the Victory anniversary were presented to the guests. "Zvyazda" Publishing House presented the books "Blockade" and "75 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War". Another novelty that was presented at the exhibition was the publication "Belarus Multinational" by the "Alpha Book" Publishing House.

The visitors of the event received memorable gifts: reprints of postcards from the collection of Mr Likhodedov and copies of pages from the "provincial sheets" of the 19th century.

Everyone could join the tour conducted by Mr Likhodedov himself at the end of the event.
