From January 29 to February 28, in the Fine Arts Reading Room (room 306), a book-illustrative exhibition "About the past and the eternal" is held, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the famous Belarusian artist, holder of a diploma and medal of Francisk Skaryna, Nikolai Kupava.
One of the representatives of the Belarusian Renaissance, a tireless fighter for collecting and preserving the historical monuments of our country and the values of the past, with which the future is inextricably linked, Nikolai Kupava is a person who sincerely and loyally loves our inexhaustible cultural heritage and his native language, worries about development national art school in art.
Nikolai was born in Orsha, an ancient city with a rich history and culture. He was educated at the Belarusian Theater and Art Institute, where he studied with P. Lyubomudrov and V. Sharangovich. From 1972 to the present day, Kupava has been active in exhibitions, works in the field of book and easel graphics, watercolours, painting, historical compositions, bookplates. Has designed more than 30 books and albums, created a whole gallery of portraits of famous figures of Belarusian history and culture, captured natural monuments, beautiful Belarusian landscapes.
The exhibition presents reproductions of Nikolai Kupava's works, dedicated to the main themes of his work - writers Yanka Kupala and Yakub Kolas, different periods of their lives, places associated with them. For example, there are copies of linocuts from the album "Shlyakhami Yanki Kupala".
The exhibition is complemented by publications about Nikolai Kupava, interviews with him, as well as his articles, books and exhibition catalogues, compiled by the artist.
Nikolai Kupava has long been a reader of the National Library of Belarus, his employees know and respect him, and the book collections of the "diamond of knowledge" are filled with publications with beautiful illustrations by Nikolai Kupava. The graphic artist takes an active part in the library's art exhibitions. Thus, his ex-librises are presented in the museum's exposition of the book "From the Books of Vladimir Korotkevich", and at the exhibition "The Principality of Images and Words" N. Kupava's watercolours to V. Korotkevich's fairy tales are exhibited. Nikolai Kupava also participates in the publishing projects of the library: he provided significant assistance in the design of the electronic disk "Don't pay for your life, find Belarusian": for the 180th anniversary of F. Bogushevich ", his works partially decorate the cover and internal interface of this publication.
