On 11 May, 2012, the National Library of Belarus has presented as a gift more than 300 editions to the library of agrarian village Dvorishche in Dzerzhinsk District, Minsk Region.


The book donation is part of the republican action “The Belarusian book for regions” within the framework of the Year of Book.

Director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky and Chairman of the Dzerzhinsk Regional Executive Committee Nicolay Artyushkevich made a welcoming speech at a solemn ceremony.

The collections of the Dvorishche library was replenished with encyclopedias, textbooks, fiction and children’s literature published in Belarus. Among the presented documents there are editions of the National Library of Belarus including CDs prepared by its employees and dedicated to lives and to careers of V. Dunin-Martsinkevich, E. Karskiy, M. Bogdanovich and others.

The Dvorishche library also received books of the series “Classics of the CIS Literature”. Among them there are literary monuments on the history and culture of the CIS member states which have been transmitted to the National Library of Belarus by the CIS Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation (IFHC).

The most valuable are encyclopedias and reference editions presented by the publishing house “Belarusian Encyclopedia named after P. Brovka”: the volumes of “The Belarusian Encyclopedia”, “The Encyclopedia of the History of Belarus”, “The Theatrical Encyclopedia” etc.

In 2012, the National Library of Belarus is planning to present as a gift 100 thousand editions to over 200 public, university, school and other special libraries of the country.

"Soldier's Fate": on the 100th anniversary of Vasil Bykov and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the People's writer of Belarus, publicist and screenwriter Vasil Vladimirovich Bykov.
On this occasion, the National Library has prepared an anniversary exhibition "Soldier's fate", which highlights the great influence on the work of the Belarusian writer of his participation in the Great Patriotic War.
