On December, 19th, the National Library of Belarus hosted a round table “Acquisitions in Belarusian libraries in the context of the needs of modern society”.


The event was arranged by the Library Stocks Committee of the Belarusian Library Association (BLA) in cooperation with the Acquisition department of the National Library of Belarus.

The round table gathered about 50 participants: heads and specialists of acquisition departments of republican, regional, university and other libraries.

During the meeting principal directions of the development of Belarusian libraries’ stocks were discussed, and the questions of acquisition of legal deposit copies in the National Library of Belarus were considered. Lecturers opened organizational and technological questions of purchase of literature for the stocks of the National Library of Belarus and republican libraries and the features of purchasing procedures for books, periodicals and databases. Representatives of libraries of different systems and departments exchanged experience in problem solving in acquisition of various sources of information.

The round table moderators: T.V. Kuzminich, deputy director for information resources of the National Library of Belarus and M.V. Zhukovskaya, chairwoman of the BLA Library Stocks Committee and head of section for republican document exchange and distribution at the Acquisition department of the National Library of Belarus.

Matskevich, head of section for document reception and legal deposit copy control at the Acquisition department, I.V. Goncharenko, head of section for current acquisition of national and the CIS member countries’ documents at the Acquisition department. Other lecturers: I.S. Andreeva, head of the Resources development department of the Republican Scientific Medical Library; N.P. Mizavtsova, head of the Resources development department of the Presidential Library of the Republic of Belarus; E.G. Glinskaya, head of the Acquisition department of the library of the Belarusian State Economic University; M.V. Angedina, head of the Acquisition and document processing department of the Vitebsk Regional Library named after V.I. Lenin; I.V. Volkova, head of the Information and Library Center of secondary school № 3 in Osipovichi.

Document Restoration: Conservatism and Innovation – 2024

Connoisseur of Belarusian Antiquities

April 18, 2024 marks the 210th anniversary of the birth of Yevstafiy Tyshkevich, a famous archaeologist, historian, ethnographer, local historian and museologist. His research has raised whole layers of the historical past, he was one of the first Belarusian authors of local lore. To mark the anniversary of the scientist, an exhibition "Connoisseur of Belarusian Antiquities" has been organized in the Book Museum of the National Library of Belarus.
