Festival "The city and books. Science"

The festive opening of the Second city book festival "The city and books. Science" took place in the Library on April 1–2.

There was a friendly and cozy atmosphere at the festival opening, because it gathered and united book lovers at one place. This year the festival has its own theme, it is dedicated to the science and popular scientific literature and introduces to visitors literature and scientific projects.

Guests of the large-scale event were welcomed in five thematic venues, where they had an interesting amusing programme: 5-6 events on two storeys of the National Library at the same time.

Kid’s venue was dedicated to little readers and literature lovers. Interactive musical programmes, theatrical performances and meetings with favorite fairy tales heroes and children book authors gave children a lot of jolly minutes. Every action was dedicated to the interesting study of different subjects: chemistry, biology, maths, natural studies.

Baby theatre Бусы organized a real space washing and opened secrets of space and astronomy. A Ximikids science show programme presented interesting experiments, which caused delight and surprise of little chemists. And two-meter high robot transformer, that appeared at the festival’s opening, immediately attracted the attention of adults and kids who wanted to take a picture and talk to him.

Youth venue proposed talks with scientists, popular authors. Secrets of a neat handwriting were revealed by Aleksey Koval at the calligraphy lecture.

Experts’ meetings gathered parents and specialists in reading for discussion of modern children’s popular scientific literature. Natalia Medved, author of the blog "Little reader", made a review of the popular-scientific literature for children and told what publications and publishing houses are credible and should be preferred.

The centre of the festival was the most creative venue, which amused both adults and kids, a hand-made exhibition "Smiling wonders – 3". After a stroll around the cardboard town where heroes of modern books live, guests visited a zone of master-classes and reading aloud. Everyone could show his inventive skills and be taught by masters how to make a plane, a unique bookmark, a toy for a home theatre or an eco-friendly bar of soap. It was possible to enjoy listening to fairy tales by the best readers in a little amphitheatre as well.

Visitors of the Second city book festival could enjoy the two-day interesting programme and make a new discovery – the book city of wonderful experiments and funny science.
