The honoured collective of the Republic of Belarus, the State Folk Music Ensemble "Sviata" performed a Kaliada program for the staff of the National Library on January 14.

The tradition of Kaliada dates back over a thousand years. From the old times, our ancestors sang to praise Kaliada – an old Slavic god of the sun. Now Kaliada songs are sung to commemorate the birth of Christ for the "old" New Year.

The atmospheric holiday performances of the talented artists of the professional folklore ensemble made everyone smile. Joyful celebratory songs, energetic dances put the audience in a good mood and brought back to life old folk traditions.

"We wish happiness and health in the Year of the Ox and the Cow!" – Mr Viachaslaw Statkevich, Art Director of the collective and the winner of the Francysk Skaryna medal, cheerfully wished employees of the National Library at the end of the concert.
