On January 26, a unique lesson at the exhibition Encyclopedia. National Project with the curator of the exhibition, Ksenia Susha, will be held as part of the Book Professors Club.
The encyclopedia is one of the most popular and necessary books for each professor. At the lesson, children will see the ancestors of Wikipedia – encyclopedias from ancient times to the present. This is the Natural History by Pliny (the Lyon edition of the 16th century), the first encyclopedia of the modern type – the French Cyclopædia, or an Universal Dictionary of Arts and Sciences by Denis Diderot (1751–1780), the most authoritative encyclopedia in English Britannica (1875–1888), the most successful German Brockhaus Enzyklopädie (1882–1887). And of course, visitors will learn about the creation of the Belarusian Encyclopedia. They will see the editions of the sixteenth century and create their own page for the encyclopedia.
