On April 9, an official event, an evening of Belarusian culture dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the famous Belarusian writers, I. Melezh and I. Shamiakin was held in Madrid.
The evening was organized by the Belarusian diaspora in Spain with the support of the All-Spanish Association of Belarusians "EsBelarus", the Association "Culture without Borders" and the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in the Kingdom of Spain.
Mr Raman Matulski, Director General of the National Library of Belarus addressed the participants of the online roundtable with a welcome speech. “I believe this meeting is essential in the matter of uniting everyone in emigration who feels indispensable connection to the ancestral land. As we all know, such events became a good tradition, as it’s important to remember your roots, history and culture,” said Mr Matulski in his video message.
For musical accompaniment, the National Library provided the organizers of the event with copies of unique scores of Belarusian music of the 20–30s of the 20th century.
Over 40 people took part in the event, including representatives of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the media, citizens of Spain, Ukraine and Russia. For those who were unable to participate, an online broadcast was organized on the embassy's Facebook page.
