A meeting of the Coordinating Council of Education under the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus was held chaired by Mr Roman Motulsky, Director General of the National Library of Belarus on December 18.
Members of the Council, representatives of regional education departments and other interested persons attended the meeting.
The main topic of discussion was the format change of the admission to educational institutions campaign. Mr Sergei Kasperovich, Head of the Main Directorate of Professional Education of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, made a keynote speech on the new model of the admission campaign to institutions of higher and secondary specialized education and the combined exam for the secondary school course. “The Ministry of Education has created an interdepartmental working group to amend the rules for admission of persons to institutions of higher education of the first stage and secondary specialized education as part of the implementation of the instructions of the head of state to improve the rules for admission to institutions of higher and secondary specialized education. A mechanism for format change of the admission campaign to institutions of higher and secondary specialized education is being worked out, the proposed model of the admission campaign and the combined exam for the secondary school course is undergoing extensive discussion," said Mr Sergei Kasperovich.
The members of the Public Advisory Council considered the introduction of a national state exam for graduates of general secondary education institutions, changes in the entrance campaign, holding intra-university Olympiads to select the most prepared applicants, amending the rules for admitting persons to receive secondary specialized education in terms of competitive selection. During the meeting, the members of the Council made a number of proposals and comments related to their future implementation.
Summing up the results of the meeting, Mr Roman Motulsky, Chairperson of the Coordinating Council of Education on education concluded: “Our country has built a good system for assessing the knowledge of graduates and applicants. The existing positive experience must only be improved in order to ensure equal rights to receive secondary specialized and higher education and improve the quality of specialists."
