In the context of a lack of funding, a lack of space for the placement of funds, a decrease in the copy number of purchased documents, a deterioration in the quality of the paper and consumer characteristics of publishing products, the threat of a decrease in the quantitative and qualitative composition of library funds increases. A significant part of the documents can be lost without active work to ensure the safety of library collections.
The library hosted a round table was held "Ensuring the safety of national documents on paper: the main processes and their staffing" within the framework of the 7th International Congress "Library as a Phenomenon of Culture" on October 22. The list moderators: N. Berezkina, Ph.D., Associate Professor of the Department of the Institute advanced training and retraining of personnel of the Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts, V. Pshibytko, Head of the Center for Digitization and Preservation of Library Documents of the National Library of Belarus. The issues of organizing the safety of paper documents, converting them into electronic form, staffing with specialists-restorers, which are relevant for today, were discussed.
The round table was attended by specialists from libraries, higher educational institutions, as well as organizations specializing in the restoration of paper documents.
The priority areas of joint activities of libraries, archives and educational institutions related to the advanced training of library staff in the field of preservation of paper-based documents, the training of art restorers, the need to monitor the state of restoration and preservation of documents in public libraries of the Republic of Belarus were discussed.
