On 7–8 June, the International scientific seminar "Problems of study of the cultural heritage of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania” was held in Vilnius. Academic Secretary of the National Library of Belarus A. Susha took part in the event.


The event was arranged by the Association of Researchers of the Dialogue of Languages and Cultures in Europe.

The international seminar had gathered researchers of book culture from Belarus, Lithuania, Poland, Russian and Ukraine i.e. from the countries considered as the successors of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, which, in former times, had been the biggest European state. Specialists of the major Lithuanian libraries, representatives of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, faculty of Vilnius University, persons working for master’s and doctor’s degree took part in the seminar as well.

The report of Academic Secretary of the National Library of Belarus A. Susha “The Results of Realization of Scientific and Project Works by Belarusian Libraries in the Sphere of Study and Promotion of the Heritage of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania” was highly appreciated by participants of the seminar. Participants learned about the Library’s activity in the field of preservation, study and promotion of the national documentary heritage of Belarus and could see the copies of printed editions published by the National Library of Belarus.

Within the framework of the International seminar, meetings with the board of The Vrublevskys’ Library at the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences took place. Participants of the event expressed their interest in joint activity for the development of electronic information resources and scientific and project works.

The activity of The Vrublevskys’ Library at the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences in the field of study, digitization and safekeeping of valuable manuscripts and printed book monuments was presented in details.

The last negotiations with Mrs. R. Varnene-Yanssen, the Director of the Center of Bibliography and Book Science at M. Mazvydas Lithuanian National Library, inspire hope to the further cooperation between Belarusian and Lithuanian libraries in the field of the development of national electronic libraries and scientific interaction.

Connoisseur of Belarusian Antiquities

April 18, 2024 marks the 210th anniversary of the birth of Yevstafiy Tyshkevich, a famous archaeologist, historian, ethnographer, local historian and museologist. His research has raised whole layers of the historical past, he was one of the first Belarusian authors of local lore. To mark the anniversary of the scientist, an exhibition "Connoisseur of Belarusian Antiquities" has been organized in the Book Museum of the National Library of Belarus.
