On April 22, in the Spanish town of Esquivias, the Don Quixote was first performed in the Belarusian language.


From 21 to 24 April 2016, at the initiative of the Embassy of Belarus in France, the director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky was on a visit to Spain.

During the visit Roman Motulsky met the director of the National Library of Spain Ana Santos Aramburo and discussed the possibility of establishing bilateral cooperation between the libraries of the two countries. The main Library of Spain received as a gift a collection of the best Belarusian books published within the framework of the project “Modern Belarus”.

Also Roman Motulsky attended the IX Annual “Cervantes Readings” which were held as part of the programme “Madrid, the World Book Capital”. During the event representatives of about 30 countries read out fragments from the world-known novel El ingenioso hidalgo Don Quijote de la Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra in their mother languages. The Don Quixote was first performed in the Belarusian language by the Director of the National Library of Belarus in the House-Museum of Cervantes in the town of Esquivias .

Within the bounds of the visit, Roman Motulsky was interviewed by the Radio Espana and held meetings in the main museums of Madrid – the Museum of Prado and the Royal Palace.

"Soldier's Fate": on the 100th anniversary of Vasil Bykov and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the People's writer of Belarus, publicist and screenwriter Vasil Vladimirovich Bykov.
On this occasion, the National Library has prepared an anniversary exhibition "Soldier's fate", which highlights the great influence on the work of the Belarusian writer of his participation in the Great Patriotic War.
