A permanent virtual exhibition “Confession of courage and love”, dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the national artist of Belarus Mikhail Savitsky, is available for users since February 13.
A person of a titanic ability to work, the power of will, a doubtless talent, dedication to art Mikhail Savitsky (1922–2010) is one of outstanding Belarusian artists who represented “a rough style”. As he was a prisoner of Buchenwald and Dachau and survivied atrocities of the war, the artist vividly and emotionally presented all sufferings, the whole tragic truth of life in his canvases. Creating highly truthful, sometimes even scary images, nevertheless, he employed means of the wonderful.
Being a many-sided personality, Mikhail Savitsky was many-sided in art as well. He created works dedicated to the Biblical themes, women’s images and motherhood, human work, harvest and bread. Moreover, the artist created portraits of Belarusian artists and cultural workers.
The virtual exposition“Confession of courage and love” presents a brief Savitsky’s biography, his main works, including an impressive and unforgettable series of paintings “Figures on the heart”, books and articles about life and work of the artist, his illustrations to children’s books. There are manifold photos as well.
