Ms Tatiana Minchenya, the veteran of the National Library of Belarus, celebrates her 50th birthday. She has dedicated her entire life to serving the library, books and culture in general.

Tatiana Minchenya was born in the town of  Urechie, Lyuban District, Minsk Region. Her father was a public servant and her mother was a housewife. She received primary and secondary education in Secondary School № 2 in Urechie. She successfully graduated from the Minsk State Pedagogical Institute named after M. Gorky, on August 17, 1970. Afterwards, she came to work at the State Library of the BSSR named after V.I. Lenin. There is only one entry in her workbook in the "Information about employment" column: "State Library of the BSSR named after V.I. Lenin” (now - the National Library of Belarus).

She began her career in the Reference and Bibliographic Department as a bibliographer. Seven years later, Tatiana Minchenya was transferred to the post of a Senior Bibliographer in the Book Chamber of the BSSR (at that time it was one of the divisions of the State Library of the BSSR named after V.I.Lenin). Tatiana Minchenya returned to the Reference and Information Department In December 1977, after the reorganization of the Book Chamber of the BSSR.

She approaches any business creatively. Having perfectly mastered the technique of searching for the necessary information, he can always advise the reader where to find the answer to even the most difficult question.

Excellent professional knowledge and accumulated work experience allowed her to head the Department of Recommendatory Bibliography in 1986, and the Section of Selective Dissemination of Information of the Reference and Information Department a year later.

Tatiana Minchenya has earned a well-deserved authority among her colleagues after 20 years of work. Tactfulness and benevolence, combined with exactingness, responsibility and scrupulousness - these and other positive qualities contributed to the fact that in March 1990 she was appointed as the Scientific Secretary of the library.  Tatiana Minchenya contributed to the stable functioning of the library in a transitional historical period for our country thanks to her accumulated experience and deep knowledge of library activities by devoting all of herself to the profession.

Tatiana remembers: “The library faced obstacles that seemed insurmountable at that difficult time of the collapse of the USSR, social and political changes in the country, economic instability. The situation with the placement of collections has become critical. It was necessary to achieve the construction of a new building in the difficult conditions of that time. At the same time, the international relations of the library began to develop actively, its role and importance as the main library of the country, the most important information and cultural institution of the Republic of Belarus, grew rapidly.

The State Library of the BSSR named after V.I. Lenin was transformed into the National Library of Belarus in 1992. The change of the status, the growth of its importance in the cultural and social development of society, expanded the horizons of its capabilities and set new tasks. The library began active interaction with diplomatic missions, representatives of international organizations in the 90s to find extra-budgetary funds to finance various projects. The informatization of the library began at this time.

The early 2000s became a time of global technological transformations. Each of the assigned tasks required serious study and argumentation".

Tatiana Minchenya excellently coped with the functions assigned to her, she contributed to the further development of the library as a republican information centre.

She was actively fulfiled social activities along with the productive professional activity. She was a member of the Trade Union Committee of the library for many years and an Assessor of the People's Court of the Leninsky district of the Minsk city.

She repeatedly received state awards for her professional skills and dedication to the profession. The Certificate of Honor of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus (1998), the Certificate of Honor of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus (2003), the Personal allowance of the President of the Republic of Belarus for a Significant Contribution to the Development of Library Science in the Republic of Belarus (2003). The name of Tatiana Minchenya repeatedly appeared on the Library's Board of Honor are among her awards.

Currently, Tatiana Minchenya continues her career at the Acquisition Department.

The staff of the National Library of Belarus congratulates Tatiana on her professional anniversary and wishes her health and well-being, successful implementation of all creative ideas and new achievements in her librarianship.

Adam Shanyavsky and the library fund of the Nesvizh county school (the last quarter of the XVIII century)

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."
