We continue to tell readers about the virtual project "On the Wave of Time, Throughout the Life", valuable documents and researchers taking part in.
The most important thing in each person's life is creative growth and search for oneself and one's own destination. This is the motto of Mr Dmitry Davidovsky, Leading Librarian who devoted forty years to his vocation. He started his career at the Belarusian department of the BSSR State Library and stayed there for life. Now he works in the Belarusian Literature Reading Room of the National Library of Belarus. For more than ten years, Mr Davidovsky has been researching the work of writers of the interwar period, and Uladzimir Dubowka among them. In 2017, the "Limarius" Publishing House published "The Collected Works by Uladzimira Dubowka" in two volumes, authored by Mr Davidovsky. After the release of the books, he continued his further active research work and close cooperation with the "Maladosts" journal where his articles on U. Dubowka were published: "Uladzimir Dubowka's Student Activities", "Arrest Immediately for a Poem". Mr Davidovsky has been taking part in the event “On the Wave of Time, Throughout the Life”, realized by the National Library of Belarus, the State Museum of History of Belarusian Literature, "Zviazda" publishing house (in particular, “Maladosts” journal) and the Belarusian State Archives–Museum of Literature and Art since 2019.
Without missing a single event held within the project, the librarian showed the way a hobby becomes a job. Mr Davidovsky spoke at the events dedicated to the anniversaries of Valery Marakow and Adam Babareka, which were held at the State Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature. He could not help but take part in the roundtable "In the Footsteps of Maladnyak" which was held as part of the "Maladnyak" Literary Association Day on January 16, 2020. He felt very comfortable among the like-minded people who gathered at the event. The topic of the report by Mr Davidovsky was “Friends and Team-mates: Uladzimir Dubowka and Adam Babareka", which was then placed on the page of the round table "In the Footsteps of Maladnyak" on the National Library of Belarus website.
This year Mr Davidovsky took part in the creation of a virtual section of the project, timed to coincide with the 120th anniversary of Uladzimir Dubowka (1900 or 1901 – 1976). He worked as an expert, clarifying information about the writer, his date of birth. This was due to the discovery of the register of births, where another date of birth was written, 1901.
Back in January, it was planned to digitize and place the full text of the collected works by Uladzimir Dubowka in the section. However, there was a problem of authorship on the part of U. Dubowka, who left no successors. According to the copyright law, we could not digitize the publication. We've searched for a solution for months. Communication with the National Center for Private Property, support of researchers (I. Bagdanovich, V. Zhybul, I. Prakapovich), who participated in the preparation of the publication, made it possible to place the full texts of the books in open access as part of the project. Also thanks to Mr Davidovich, who contacted and the publishing house, we opened access to valuable books: “The Collected Works by Uladzimira Dubowka. V. 1", “The Collected Works by Uladzimira Dubowka. V. 2" (2011, Minsk). They were printed in a limited edition and were available only by subscription at the time of release. The "Limarius" Publishing House handed over the editions in electronic form to the National Library.
Such initiatives of the project “On the Wave of Time, Throughout the Life” provide an opportunity to replenish the Electronic Library of the National Library of Belarus and keep in touch with publishing houses!
