Belarus and the Bible

belarus_i_bibliya_afisha_vert.jpg "Belarus and the Bible", the international exhibition dedicated to the most famous and influential book in human history, opened on September 20.

The exhibition is organized by the National Library of Belarus in cooperation with the non-profit organization Manuscript Research Group (USA). A part of the exhibits is presented from 11 state and private collections of the USA, Great Britain and Israel.

At the exposition you can see editions of Bible of different faiths in different languages ​​of the world: there are all monuments of world importance, many of which have never before been shown in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. About 200 unique handwritten and old printed monuments of book culture will be presented, reflecting the history of the creation, distribution and preservation of the Bible.

For the first time in Belarus original and quality exhibition copies of the Dead Sea Scrolls, biblical manuscript texts on papyrus and parchment (Torah), valuable manuscripts, early printed publications (books by Johann Gutenberg, Martin Luther, Francysk Skaryna), illustrated copies of the Bible (among them books with engravings by Albrecht Durer, Salvador Dali and other famous artists).

The achievements of the national book and written culture will be shown as an integral part of the universal spiritual heritage. The handwritten Torahs, Gospels, Apostles of the 16th–21st centuries, publications by the Belarusian first printer Francysk Skaryna and his followers, translations of biblical texts into Belarusian and European languages, as well as examples of the artistic design of Holy Scripture by the best masters of the 16–21 centuries will be presented from the collections of the National Library of Belarus .

The exhibition will have interactive platforms: a manuscript workshop and a printing house, as well as thematic lectures, excursions, master classes, museum classes, presentations and concerts.
