The country celebrates an important anniversary on July 7th: 140 years since the birth date of a classical author of the national literature Yanka Kupala (Ivan Dominikovich Lucevich).
The National Library of Belarus arranged an anniversary exhibition “The Songwriters of the Belarussian Land” and the Book Museum invites to get acquainted with a part of the poet’s personal book collection, handed over to the library in the 1920s.
The exposition includes the manuscripts of memories, executed by a famous bibliographer of the State-owned Library of the BSSR named after V.I. Lenin Bibilo Yuliya Iosifovna, to certify that Yanka Kupala “was eager to share his knowledge about books” and he was the first among other Belarussian authors, who handed over his manuscripts and books to the Library Collection.
The publications remained and marked by the owner’s inscription “Iv. Lucevich” are of great value. Among them are early-printed publication in the 18th – 19th centuries and rear publications printed in the early 20th. An earlier Cyrillic publication dated in 1772. Among the books are also presented the ones printed in Pochaevo, Vilno, Vitebsk, Smolensk, Moscow and Saint Petersburg.
The exhibition will run in the Book Museum (room 347) until August 12th, 2022.
The end date of the exhibition can be changed.
The opening hours of the exhibition corresponds to the library’s opening hours.
Entrance to the exhibition is available by the library ticket or ticket of the library's social and cultural center.
