On February 8, 2024, the grand opening of the exhibition "The language of military illustrations" dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders took place.
The exhibition is organized within the framework of the annual exhibition project "History and modernity of book graphics" and prepared jointly with the Belarusian Union of Artists, the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War, the National Archive of the Republic of Belarus and with the assistance of the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus.
The exhibition focuses on the creative reinterpretation of the tragic events of those years by eyewitnesses and descendants, the powerful ideological and historical role of partisan illustration, propaganda and anti-fascist satirical graphics. Art materials, catalogues, illustrated books, museum items, original graphics and sculpture are presented here.
Among the exhibits are the originals of Belarusian handwritten books and magazines of partisan brigades and detachments, as well as individual processed and enlarged pages of these "witnesses of history". Front-line portraits, views of destroyed settlements, sketches of military operations and everyday life are of undoubted value as signs of the times, historical documents that have brought to us the objective truth of the war.
A unique source of information about the entire period of the war are diaries and diary entries, which were presented at the exposition by the National Archive of the Republic of Belarus. They are diverse in their size, fullness, territorial and chronological coverage. But even the smallest records give an idea of individual events of the war, people, help to learn about the fate of the survivors, and find information about the dead.
