The exhibition "The Basic Law of the State", dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, adopted on March 15, 1994. It is the first in the history of the sovereign republic and the fifth Constitution of Belarus in force after the October Revolution of 1917.
The updated version of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, adopted at the republican referendum on February 27, 2022, is of great importance. It enshrines such universal values as man, his rights and freedoms, sovereignty, democracy, the rule of law, social justice, equality of all before the law. The obligation of the citizens of the Republic of Belarus to preserve the historical memory of the heroic past of the Belarusian people, cultural and spiritual heritage is prescribed.
The book and documentary exhibition was prepared jointly with the National Archive of the Republic of Belarus and includes about 60 documents reflecting the chronology of the preparation and adoption of the Constitution of our state, amendments and additions to it in connection with political, socio-economic and cultural changes.
Among the publications from the Fund of the National Library of Belarus are original printed copies of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus of different years, scientific and methodological collections on the law enforcement of the Basic Law of the State and constitutional law of the Republic of Belarus, as well as current publications in the periodical press. The book series also includes scientific publications that reveal the main provisions of the current Constitution, its role and place in the country's system of government.
Among the archival documents presented are copies of the drafts of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus from 1993 and 1994, copies of the resolution of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Belarus on the draft Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, protocols of the Central Commission of the Republic of Belarus on Elections and Republican Referendums, etc. documents.
The current Constitution of the Republic of Belarus is the foundation that provides guidelines for the further development of Belarusian society and the state. We invite everyone to familiarize themselves with the exposition in order to understand the essence and meaning of the Basic Law of our state, actively perform civic duties and respect the laws of their country.The exhibition period is from March 15 to April 30 in the ring gallery of the 2nd floor.
From March 5 to March 25, a thematic exhibition is open in the legal information reading room (room 207b) "The Constitution: turning the pages of history", dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus.The end date of the exhibition can be changed.
The opening hours of the exhibition corresponds to the library’s opening hours.
