On 10 October, a grand opening of the exhibition "100 years of Italian fashion: shoes and bags" was held at the National Library of Belarus.

The project was prepared by the Embassy of the Italian Republic to the Republic of Belarus in cooperation with the National Library of Belarus.

In the gallery Atrium, visitors can see the biggest collection of accessories made by famous representatives of Italian fashion and style for last century.

All exhibits are "icons" of the great Italian craftsmanship. Words Made in Italy mean not only famous names, but also the names of the young excellent artists that are unknown yet to the world.

The exposition of rarities was brought to Minsk by the Italian collector, director of the Art of Sartirana Foundation Giorgio Forni. He introduced the guests to the collection of such well-known brands such as Prada, Dolce&Gabbana, Armani, Versace, Gucci, Fendi and others. For many years, Giorgio Forni has been collecting worldwide famous designers’ things that have belonged to famous people and have their own unique stories. His exhibits make a successful "tour" around the world from America to China.

Visitors can see celebrities’ things, such as Julia Roberts’ bag in a form of pumpkin, Barbara Streisand’s bag with feathers, Elton John’s backpack, Madonna’s boots.

To the grand event the National Library of Belarus presented the exhibition dedicated to the Italian Republic. It includes more than 70 illustrated books which reflect the beauty of Italian nature, its masterpieces of art and architecture. Among them are photo albums about Italy, guidebooks to Rome, Venice, Naples, Milan, Florence, albums on Italian art, books on the history of Italy, the classics of world painting Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, Botticelli and fashion designers Armani, Versace, Benetton, as well as editions on the Italian cuisine and wine making. The exposition also presents issues of the magazine Italia about the most important and interesting events in the political, economic and cultural life of this beautiful and sunny country.

The opening ceremony included a fashion show. The visitors saw fashionable clothes by the label Dmitry Sholokhov for O. Jen. This dynamic, multi-faceted, elegant collection reflected the creative union of the leading Belarusian fashion brand and a successful New York designer.

This exhibition provides a unique opportunity to discover the Italian fashion and understand how it has evolved for centuries and won the world by artists’ creativity and genius.

The exhibition runs from 11 October.
