From 10 September to 27 October, an exhibition "Belarus is multinational" runs at the National Library of Belarus (3rd floor, circular corridor).
Belarus is a multinational state. According to the 2009 survey, more than 140 nationalities live in the country. Some of them settled down many centuries ago, others immigrated quite recently or in recent years. The reasons of their resettlement in Belarus are different, however, our country for these peoples became a second home where they learn, work, marry and where their children are born and the graves of their ancestors are located.
The country has more than 20 associations of ethnic communities. Working closely together with institutions of local and national governing, ethno-cultural associations receive steady financial, legal and organizational support from the state.
The book exhibition "Belarus is multinational" represents interesting information about the manners, customs, and cultural traditions of more than 20 nationalities living in Belarus. The exhibition gives an opportunity to know about the history and culture of these peoples and get unique recipes of national cuisine.
The materials on display are grouped in alphabetical order by the names of nationalities. Its centerpiece is the collection of statistical information Перепись населения 2009. Национальный состав населения Республики Беларусь (Population Census for 2009. The national structure of the population in the Republic of Belarus) and an illustrated edition Шматнацыянальная Беларусь (Belarus is multinational).
The exhibition contains papers on state policy in the field of international relations and the protection of the rights of persons belonging to national minorities: the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, the National Security Concept of the Republic of Belarus, the law "On National Minorities in the Republic of Belarus", etc.
Our nation is multinational, but we all have a common history, a common country, and all of us are the citizens of the Republic of Belarus.
