On August 13, lovers of the Belarusian beautiful word remember the great poet and prose writer, playwright and translator, critic and publicist, mentor of literary youth, outstanding linguist and folklorist Jakub Kolas (03.11.1882–13.08.1956).

On this day, someone lays flowers at the grave of the poet, someone is going to the museum, while the National Library offers to visit the book exhibition "Everything Lives, Everything has a Soul", where the iconic works of the national poet are collected. Among them is the poem "The Fisherman's Hut", for which Jakub Kolas received the State Prize of the USSR in 1949, as well as "The New Land" and "Symon-Musician", with which he entered the world literature as "Belarusian Homer", the creator of the poetic epos of Belarusians.

We advise you to look through "the most beautiful book in the world" of 1969. The publication of the poem with illustrations by G. Paplauski received such recognition at the international exhibition of graphics and book art (Leipzig, IBA-69).

The exhibition also presents studies by Mikhas Mushinski, Julian Pshirkau, Anatol Trafimchyk, Vera Mitskievich, dedicated to the life and legacy of Jakub Kolas.

The work of the great poet had a significant impact on the development of the entire Belarusian culture. The younger generation of Belarusians read his works, international conferences are held dedicated to the research of his legacy.

The exhibition is located in the Belarusian Literature Reading Room (room 205) and will run from August 12 to 19, 2021.

The opening hours of the exhibition correspond to the library’s opening hours.
Admission is by the library card or by the Social and Cultural Centre ticket.
