The church year is an alternation of everyday work and holidays. On weekdays a human has to work, whereas on holidays people should feel liberated, get free of daily routine, and touch to the spirituality.
Russian Orthodox Church observes twelve important holidays – Dominical and Our Lady’s – celebrating them with a particular solemnity in memory of the Evangelical History. The Easter Day is the main Orthodox holiday which is the pivotal event of Orthodox Christians spiritual life.
The National Library of Belarus congratulates you on the Easter Day and invites you to the book exhibition where are displayed over 150 materials from the Library’s collections. Most of them are books published by Belarusian Exarchate Publishing House. The holiday exposition reveals the history of Russian Orthodox Church and includes encyclopedias of Orthodox holidays, information on the eminent Orthodox monuments (churches, cathedrals, monasteries, icons, relics, and holy wells) in Belarus and foreign countries; calendars; prayer books; books on ceremonial cuisine, and photo albums. At the exhibition are as well displayed electronic publications: a unique reference book "Theological Encyclopedia” (contains 6 600 articles), and electronic verse of the bibliography "The History of Early Christianity" (issued by National Library of Belarus in 2004) which includes materials published between 1800 and 1995 in Russian and Belarusian languages.
The exposition is open on the second floor in the circular hall till May 20, 2009.
