On January 12th – 29th, an exhibition "Fairytales on the easel” dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Belarusian artist, master of easel painting and book graphics Elena Los runs in the Visual materials reading room (room 307).


Elena Los, the winner of republican and all-Union contests “The Art of Book” began her career as an illustrator. Visitors of the exhibition will see a set of favorite books of Belarusian national fairy tales, riddles, sayings, chastooshkas illustrated by the talented artist. Her works – Залатая яблынька / The Gold Apple-Tree, Разумная дачка / The Sage Daughter, Прыляцелі гусі а з беленькай Русі / Wild-Gooses Came Flying from White Russia, За ельнічкам, за бярэзнічкам / Behind the Fir-Wood, Behind the Birch-Wood, Калыханка / The Lullaby – fascinate with their warmth both adults and kids, their brightness and rich colors attract at once and remain in the memory.

Along with illustrating of children’s books and magazines the artist actively works in the field of easel painting. In the 1960s – 970s there took place the true blossoming of Belarusian linoleum engraving, including color etching. Elena Los, feeling deeply all the opportunities of this technique, has adapted it for her creative concepts. Some of known series of her linoleum engravings are presented at an exhibition – Дзеці Белавежы / Children of Bielovezha, Палескі матыў / Polesie Motives, Ружанскія паданні / Tales of Ruzhany.

The artist is also fascinated with lithograph. She has created remarkable cycles of color lithographs inspired by Belarusian folklore, the poetry of Yanka Kupala and her own journeys to Polesie.

During all her creative career Elena Los has worked with enthusiasm in the genre of still-life. In her creative “luggage” prevail “tempera bouquets” brought from her travels.

For the decades of her creative service to the Belarusian book the artist has illustrated the whole library of the most different editions which are noted by honorable diplomas of republican and international contests. Most part of them is on display. These are collections of Belarusian national fairy tales, children’s books by Ales Yakimovich, Vasily Vitko, Zmitrok Byadulya, Averyan Deruzhinsky, Nil Gilevich, Vladimir Yagovdik etc.

The exposition includes over 100 documents: albums, books, journals, engravings and postcards representing the most significant patterns of the artist’s work.

"On the paths of bright spring" by Pavlyuk Trus

On May 16, participants of the National Library of Belarus project "On the wave of time throughout life" visited the Uzden Central District Library named after Pavlyuk Trus, where they took part in the literary and musical festival "On the paths of bright spring.." dedicated to the 120th anniversary of the birth of the poet, member of the association "Maladnyak", native of Uzden region Pavlyuk Trus (1904-1929).
