An exhibition "He Came to Us from Childhood" dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the composer Sergey Banevich is on show in the Music and Audiovisual Documents Reading Room (room 305) from November 18 to December 31.
Siarhiej Banievich is a representative of the St. Petersburg composer's school, whose work is addressed primarily to children.
Continuing the traditions of Russian musical romanticism, the composer writes operas, ballets, operettas, musicals, scores for films, radio and television productions. In them, he turns to popular fairy tales, fascinating fiction and history, which attracts young listeners. Performances of Banevich's music have been staged at Russia's major opera theatres – the Bolshoi, the Mariinsky, the Mikhailovsky, the Zazerkalye children's music theatre in St Petersburg and the Natalya Sats Musical Theatre in Moscow.
The exhibition will give a closer look into Banevich's work. It will present the composer's most important pieces. These are operas "The Story of Kay and Gerda", "The Steadfast Tin Soldier" and "How the Night Was Turned On"; the musical "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer"; an album of piano pieces based on the tales of Hans Christian Andersen; the vocal cycle "Vasilyevsky Island" to the poems of Lyudmila Barbas, songs and ensembles for children, audio documentaries with musical stories and much more.
