From November 1, 2007 to December 31, 2007 in the Periodicals Reading Room (room 106) is open an exhibition “Human Rights - the Major Social Value”. The exhibition is dedicated to human rights which are today an essential part of every person’s life and regulate relationships between the state and the citizen.
The exhibition presents over 30 publications by several authors from Belarusian and Russian periodicals.
The exposed materials reveal different sides of human rights: civil, political, social, economical, and cultural, and cover issues of the history and the modern state of legal activity both in Belarus and all over the world. A particular attention is paid to the protection of human rights to work, education, liberty of conscience, and social security. Numerous publications presented at the exhibition acquaint visitors with these issues.
A particular section of the exhibition is dedicated to children’s rights protection. With the purpose to assure state and social maintenance and protection of the childhood, and favor harmonic development of a person, the President of the Republic of Belarus issued an edict which proclaims 2007 as the Year of a Child. Publications exposed at the exhibition inform visitors on researches in the field of the state social policy on the protection of children’s rights and legitimate interests, as well as on the development of a unique legal Internet project - a children’s web site.
Along with traditional human rights, the exhibition acquaints visitors with a new group of human rights which origin is due to the latest achievements in the field of biology and medicine: genetics, biomedicine, etc.
The exhibition “Human Rights - the Major Social Value” is timed to the Human Rights Day which the world community has been celebrating since 1950. Theprincipal human rights are listed defined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the UNO General Assembly on December 10, 1948.
