A thematic exhibition “IAEA: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow”, dedicated to the 65th anniversary since the International Atomic Energy Agency has been established, will run in the International documents reading room (room 207g) between July 21st and August 30th.
The exhibition, suggested to the readers, consists of around 80 documents in the Russian and English. These are books, brochures, mimeographed materials of the UN, periodicals, leaflets. The exhibits introduce the readers to activity of the International Atomic Energy Agency and other international organizations, amid at secure, reliable and peaceful utility of nuclear technologies.
The materials presented in the exhibition will introduce how the agency was established, its structure and baseline development phases, as well as a legal framework for cooperation between IAEA and the Republic of Belarus.
A larger part of the exhibition is related to the IAEA documents, which are annual reports on organization activity, resolutions and decisions of the general conference and management council, report on technical cooperation, annual reviews and estimations of nuclear security etc.
Among the books presented in the exhibition are collections of international-legal documents and national legislative acts related to the issues on nuclear energy, monography, reference books, collections of scientific articles on nuclear security etc.
The exposition includes the following thematic sections:
- IAEA establishment history, its goals and functions
- Securing a reliable and peaceful utility of nuclear technologies: IAEA requirements and safety manuals
- IAEA regulatory and legal acts
- IAEA scientific programs
- IAEA activity in the field of technical assistance and cooperation
- Belarus and IAEA
The exhibition will be interesting for specialists in the field of disarmament and safety, atomic energy, international relations, engineer staff, ecologists, politologists, sociologists, as well as students, Ph.D. candidates and higher education teachers.
International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is a leading global international organization on scientific and technical cooperation in the nuclear field. The activity of the agency amid at secure utility of nuclear science and technologies in peaceful goals, assisting to the international peace and safety, and achieving goals of the United Nations Organization in the field of sustain development.
An official date for establishing the agency is considered July 29th, 1957, a day when its Articles of Association has come into force. At present, 175 states are the members of the IAEA. The headquarters of the organization is located in Vienna.
The Republic of Belarus is a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency since the date it has been established. Belarus has a worked up legal frameworks for cooperating with the agency. Our county is a member-state of the majority of international conventions on nuclear safety, Convention on Early Warning on a Nuclear Accident, Convention on Assistance in case of Nuclear Accident or Radiological Emergency etc. There is an agreement that has been concluded between Belarus and IAEA, which states that the guaranties will be applied in relation with Nonproliferation Treaty, according to which the territory of Belarus is inspected by the IAEA regularly.
