From July 14, 2008, to August 17, 2008, in the Documents of International Organizations Reading Room (second floor, room 207g) is open a book exhibition “International terrorism: sources, issues, resistance”.
Terrorism is one of the most urgent issues of the modern world. It not only turned to a real threat to the national defense of particular states, but became an international issue. Today terrorism threatens a sustainable international relations and the development of the whole world community.
Terrorism threatens the whole world community, and there are not effectual defense mechanisms against this threat. The development of a strategy and tactics of the fight against terrorism is of a great political, economic, social, and legal importance.
Materials displayed at the exhibition acquaint visitors with theoretical study of terrorism, analysis of its origins, and activities of the UN, Council of Europe, and other international organizations in the field of the fight against terrorism.
Materials displayed at the exhibition inform on the main regional sectors of terrorism: European, Latin-American, and Near-Eastern, and reveal activities of particular states and governments in the field of liquidation of centers of terrorism. There is displayed literature on programs and methods of the fight against terrorism, and diplomacy and cooperation of international and regional organizations in the field of the fight against terrorism.
At the exhibition are displayed about 60 materials in Russian and English languages: books, brochures, UN mimeographed materials, and periodicals.
The exhibition includes the following sections:
• manifestation and the main point of terrorism in the global world;
• fight against terrorism legal control;
• national policy of particular countries in the field of the fight against terrorism;
• international and regional cooperation in the field of the fight against terrorism.
The purpose of the exhibition is to emphasize all the importance of informing on origins of terrorism, and revelation and suppression of this phenomenon.
We invite to the exhibition all users of National Library of Belarus, as well as representatives of law enforcement agencies, judges, lawyers, professors and students, and everybody who is interested in the issues of the fight against terrorism.
