An anniversary book exhibition "Life with the mother tongue” timed to the 100th birthday of celebrated Belarusian scientist and linguist M.R. Sudnik (1910–1995) runs at reading room 205 from November 4 to November 30.
Mikhail Sudnik was an outstanding historian and philologist, a brilliant expert in the Belarusian literary language, a collector and researcher of its lexical treasures. His scientific interests were connected, first of all, with Belarusian lexicology and lexicography.
The exhibition presents lexicographical works which reveal the scientist’s talent of an author, co-author and editor. Among them – “Orthographical Dictionary” (1948), “Russian-Belarusian Dictionary” (1953), “Belarusian-Russian Dictionary” (1962), “Names Dictionary” (1965; 2nd edition, 2005), “Russian-Belarusian Dictionary of Social and Political Terminology” (1970), “Explanatory Dictionary of the Belarusian Language” (volume 1–5, 1977–1984) etc.
Also there are works by M.R. Sudnik dedicated to the history and development of Belarusian linguistics and articles on Belarusian orthography. The exposition includes bibliographic materials about Mikhail Sudnik.
