From July 24, 2008, to August 24, 2008, in the Visual Materials Reading Room is open an exhibition “Master has to be a pedagogue” dedicated to the 110-th anniversary of Yuri Pen Vitebsk Art School foundation (1898).

The exposition acquaints visitors with an interesting and original phenomenon in the history of Belarusian art - Vitebsk Art School. The School was founded by Yuri Pen, an artist following traditions of the Itinerants (a late 19th-centurty Russian school of realist painters) and a talented pedagogue. The School cleared the way to many talented artists: M. Shagal, L. Lisitsky, Z.Azgur, S. Yudovin, D. Yakerson, and many others.

At the exhibition are displayed books and articles about Vitebsk Art School, Yuri Pen’s life and career, pedagogues and learners of the School, as well as albums and reproductions of artists’ works.

We invite to the exhibition everybody who is interested in Belarusian art, the history of Vitebsk Art School, and Yuri Pen’s life and career.
