From June 3, 208, to July 17, 2008, in the Music and Audio Materials Reading Room (room 305) is open a book exhibition “Music of the East”.
Humanity is fascinated with the Eastern culture that music is an essential and the most impressive element.
Music of the East... This word, which includes all the elements of Eastern peoples’ music heritage – folklore, professional and religious music - invites lots of contradictory associations. There are different music cultures in the East, and each of them has its own tradition, melodic, and instruments.
At the exhibition are displayed books dedicated to music culture of India, China, Japan, Vietnam, Korea, and Arab nations; among them: “Music Culture of India” by E. Gorokhovik, “Sound of Indian Music” by R. Menon Raghkhava, “Music of Asian and African Peoples” by I.Eolyan, “Arabian Music Essays” by V. Vinogradov, “Iranian Music Classical Traditions” by Y.Lyan, “Element of Pekinese Opera”, and others. Besides that, at the exhibition are displayed articles from journals "Cultures: World Peoples Dialogue”, “Asia and Africa Today”, “Eastern Collection”, “India”, “Music Life”, “UNESCO Currier”, ‘Soviet Music”, “Melody”, and others.
The exhibition acquaints visitors with music and audio materials from the NLb’s collections: “Eastern Collection”, “Arabian Melody”, “Japan Bowl”, “Indian Sketches”, “Mahomet”, “Chinese Folk Songs”, “Collection of Chinese Violin Works”, “Six Japanese Folk Songs”, “Japanese Songs”, “Vietnamese Songs”, “Korean Folk Songs”, “Ofra Haza”, “Arabian Melodies”, “Lama Karta”, “Iran”, “Tea Travel”, ”New Chinese Music”, “Tso henguan”, “Vietnam”, “Hiroki Okano”, “The Ondekoza”, “Koku Nishimura”, “Shomyo”, “Gagaku”, “Koto Japanese Music”, “New Japan Music”, and others.
