The National Library of Belarus hosted the grand opening of the literary and artistic exhibition "Poets of the Belarussian Land", dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the birth of Belarusian writers Yanka Kupala and Yakub Kolas on June 23rd.

The creative heritage of artists of the word is represented by lifetime publications (the very first, rare, anniversary, autographed) and illustrations to the works of the famous Belarusian artists Heorgi Paplauski, Barys Zaborau, Vasil Shaarangovich. Their reinterpretation of plots complements the works, gives the literary characters sincerity and truthfulness, deep and subtle psychologism.

Manuscripts with autographs of writers, their personal belongings, certificates of awards and other interesting exhibits give a special atmosphere to the exhibition. For example, the glasses of Yakub Kolas and his ink-absorbing stamp seem to be transferred to the office of the national poet, give you the opportunity to imagine how famous lines and pages of your favorite books were born. Commemorative medals and coins dedicated to Yanka Kupala pay tribute to the master of words and tell visitors the story of memory and study of the national poet's work.

The event was attended by the Director General of the National Library of Belarus Aksana Knizhnikava, Deputy Director of the National Archive of the Republic of Belarus Elena Stukanova, Director of the Yanka Kupala State Literary Museum Anna Galinskaya, chief curator of the State Literary and Memorial Museum of Yakub Kolas, great-granddaughter of the classic of Belarusian literature Vasilina Mitskevich, First Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian Union of Artists, an art critic Natalia Sharangovich. Each of the speakers expressed due respect for Belarusian writers, emphasized their enormous contribution to the national and world culture, and expressed hope that the artistic heritage of Yanka Kupala and Yakub Kolas will continue to be appreciated and revered not only in the anniversary years and during A year of historical memory, but also in everyday life.

Funds of the National Library of Belarus, the National Archive of the Republic of Belarus, the Yakub Kolas State Literary and Memorial Museum and the Yanka Kupala State Literary Museum are involved in creating the exhibition.

The exhibition will run until December 31st, 2022.
