From 22 August to 25 September, an exhibition "The era of new thinking", dedicated to the 140th anniversary from the date of birth of English painter, illustrator Aubrey Beardsley (1872–1898), runs in the Visual Materials Reading Room (room 307).
Aubrey Vincent Beardsley is one of the most outstanding artists of graphic artists and painters for the last time. He is the man who can be called the father of modern style. He lived only 25 years, but was able to "conquer" the world through small sketches, cartoons, spines for books and vignettes for decorating red lines.
A talent of young artist revealed particularly bright in illustrations for books. The exhibition presents the first great work of Beardsley, which brought him fame – a series of illustrations to the medieval novel of Tomas Malory Le Morte d’Arthur (1892–1894). Beardsley’s professional career began with this edition and work on issues for the art magazine Savoy.
The exhibition contains more than 60 items. It is books, magazines, and graphic reproductions. The exposition also includes reproductions of works created by graphic artists, whose works appeared in the Russian magazine Vesy. One of its issues is devoted to Aubrey Beardsley.
The exposition is for all who are interested in the works of O. Beardsley and the history of British graphic art in the second half of the 19th century.
