From 27 January to 29 February, the thematic exhibition “The History and Tradition of Belarusian Science” timed to the Day of Belarusian Science runs in the National Library of Belarus (on the 3rd floor in the circular corridor).
The roots of Belarusian science plunge deep into history. It has absorbed the spiritual and intellectual traditions and research experience of many generations of scientists. After the proclamation of the BSSR the development of science went especially fast. In the twentieth century, not only the national system of research and training of science officers were created, but also internationally recognized scientific schools in the field of laser physics, optics and spectroscopy, thermal physics, materials science, physiology, chemistry, geology, botany and genetics were founded. This laid the foundation on which the Belarusian science is developing today.
When Belarus entered in a new period of its development and gained the independence and national sovereignty, the Belarusian science acquired new tasks. Basing on the experience and scientific traditions of past generations, modern scientists solve these problems at a higher level.
The exposition includes about 50 publications for the last five years: reference books and encyclopedias on the history and current state of Belarusian science; collections of scientific papers and materials of scientific international and national conferences. A separate section of the exhibition is devoted to prominent figures of Belarusian science whose biographies are represented mainly by books of the series "People of Belarusian Science."
The exhibition is designed for a wide audience of readers and visitors of the library.
