From February 5th to March 1st, in graphic and video materials reading room 307 is open a book-illustrative exhibition “The master of still-life, portrait and landscape”.
The exhibition is dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Ivan Khrutsky (1810–1885), the Belarusian and Russian artist.
Ivan Khrutsky worked in various genres: still life, landscape, portrait and interior. However, an amazing still life series created by the artist had become his best achievement and initiated the development of this genre in Russian art.
Ivan Khrutsky’s canvases produce a wonderful feeling of silence, peace and tranquility and bring a cheerful mood to the audience. As a skillful brush master, the artist reproduced his models thoroughly, achieving almost real images. Thus the first canvas of the young artist “Flowers and Fruits” (1836, the State Tretyakov Gallery) brought him the Big Silver Medal of the Academy of Arts “…for painting fruits from life”. His works had a permanent success and gave rise to numerous imitators.
Today the works of Ivan Khrutsky are kept in different museums, including the State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow, Russia), the State Russian Museum (St.-Petersburg, Russia) and the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus (Minsk, Belarus).
The exhibition presents about 100 materials: albums, books, articles, postcards and reproductions of the famous artist’s works.
The exposition is designed for everyone who is interested in the history of national art and Ivan Khrutsky’s works.
