From May 14th to May 30th in the Belarusian Literature Reading Room (room 205) is open an exhibition "The outstanding researcher of the mother tongue” dedicated to the 75th birthday of Belarusian linguist and pedagogue Alyess Kavrus.
Alyess Kavrus, the talented scientist, laureate of the Prize of M. Tank Belarusian State Pedagogical University, has successfully combined teaching and research work. As a scientist he studies the literary language and the mass media language, stylistics and standard of speech, lexicography, morphology and syntax. He is the author of scientific papers about the literary language of Y. Kupala, Y. Kolas, V. Dubovka, M. Tank, Y. Bryl, I. Ptashnikov and other Belarusian poets.
The section of the exhibition “The language of the people, the language of the writer” presents books by the author “Origins of the people’s languages” (1968) , “Stylistics of the Belarusian language” (1980), “The culture of a word” (1983), “Introduction to the Old Slavonic language” (1998, in co-authorship with А. Krutolevich) etc. Alyess Kavrus is the author of more than 250 scientific papers most of which are articles published in scientific collections and periodicals. Some of them are presented in the section “Words, people, time...”.
The last section of the exhibition “The linguist’s biography” is dedicated to the writer’s life and career.
Alyess Kavrus has been awarded with the State’s badge of honor “The honours educator of the Republic of Belarus” for his fruitful long-term work in the field of education and science.
