From 2 March to 11 April, the World Meteorological Day themed exhibition "There is no bad weather" was opened in the Documents of International Organizations reading room (No 207g).

World Meteorological Day, has been celebrated annually since 1961, on March 23. The convention that formed the World Meteorological Organisation came into force on this day in 1950, thus the date wasn't just picked at random.

The proposed exhibition contains about 70 documents in Russian and English. These are books, brochures, periodicals, booklets.

The documents will introduce the reader to the activities of the World Meteorological Organization aimed at studying the state and behavior of the Earth's atmosphere, changes in weather and climate conditions.

The materials presented at the exhibition introduce the challenges facing meteorological science and hydrology, the results of international cooperation between the national meteorological services and the WMO hydrological Services, and research in the field of weather, climate and water resources.

Among the exhibits are encyclopedic publications, analytical reviews, monographs, materials of scientific and practical conferences, and textbooks

The exhibition consists of the following thematic sections:

  • Meteorology – the science of the Earth's atmosphere
  • Modern weather monitoring systems
  • World Meteorological Organization (WMO)
  • International efforts to monitor and protect the environment
  • Climate change and water resources management

The exhibition is intended for specialists in the field of meteorology, hydrology, ecology, geophysical sciences, students and teachers, researchers, as well as those interested in climate change and environmental protection.

World Meteorology Day is celebrated as a reminder of the importance of conducting meteorological research, as well as the importance of preserving the planet's atmosphere and hydrosphere. It demonstrates the significant contribution of national meteorological and hydrological services to the safety and well-being of society and is celebrated with events around the world.

The Day of Employees of the Hydrometeorological Service of the Republic of Belarus is observed on March 23 concurrently with the global holiday. The professional holiday was established in 2012. Meteorological observation stations are located in many parts of our country. They provide hydrometeorological safety, warn about weather disasters, reduce threats to human life and damage to the Belarusian economy from weather and climate events.

Each year, WHO celebrates World Meteorological Day under a specific motto, focusing on a specific and relevant topic. In 2023, the World Meteorological Day is dedicated to the theme “The Future of Weather, Climate and Water across Generations".
