On June 8th –16th in Sudak (Ukraine) there took place the Anniversary International Conference “Crimea-2013: Libraries and Information Resources in the Modern World of Science, Culture, Education and Business”.


The theme of the conference was: «“Crimea”: results and perspectives of library and information integration and cooperation». The event gathered about one thousand specialists from 26 countries.

The key topics at the conference were: the library of the future in the digital epoch, the global information infrastructure, interlibrary cooperation and international cooperation projects; national libraries and national information resources; interaction of libraries, book publishers and the book market; electronic libraries and electronic resources; automated library systems and information technologies and many other.

The delegation of the National Library of Belarus (NLB) was represented by First Deputy Director for User Service and Ideology E.E. Dolgopolova, Editor-in-Chief of the periodicals and serials editors L.G. Kiryukhina, and Head of the NLB Electronic information resources acquisition division V.P. Lapo.

Participants of the delegation presented the following reports:

  • “Standard characteristics of information behavior of the modern library user: summarizing the republican study” (E.E. Dolgopolova);
  • ”Publishing activity of the National Library of Belarus in the modern information environment” (L.G. Kiryukhina);
  • ”Digital collections of periodicals as part of the electronic library content at the National Library of Belarus” (V.P. Lapo).

Employees of the National Library of Belarus took part in numerous discussions, presentations of resources and profile editions. They also carried on negotiations concerning participation of representatives of foreign companies, publishing houses, developers of software and information product for libraries in the international congress “The library as a cultural phenomenon” which is to be held in October. The congress and the exhibition of electronic information resources and services for science, culture and education are arranged by the National Library of Belarus.
