On May 27, at 4 p.m., a presentation of Elena Shatko’s monograph Bells and Peals of Orthodox Temples in the Western Regions of Belarus: history and present day dedicated to the 1025th anniversary of the Christening of Russia is to be held in the gallery "Labyrinth".
The edition covers the history of bells of Belarusian Orthodox temples from the 12th to the early 19th centuries. The book includes historical data about Belarusian bell ringers, stories about practices of bell ringers training, examples of bell ringer obedience in the periods of church ring restriction.
The book enclosures feature archival documents on bell sets of Belarusian churches before 1915, color photos of bells and rural bell ringers made by the author during expeditions, and notations of peals.
The edition includes a CD with audio records of traditional peals, comments of parishioners, and also a documentary film The Peal and Bell Ringers created by the Belarusian Orthodox Church News Agency.
