IV International scientific-practical seminar "Cultural diversity: the history and the social-communicative nature of the book” took place in Kharkov on April 12-15.


The seminar was held at the Central Scientific Library of V.N. Karazin Kharkov National University (Ukraine).

The National Library of Belarus was presented by the report of G.V. Kireeva and L.G. Kiryukhina “Research activity of the National Library of Belarus in the field of bibliology”.

The seminar organizers: V.N. Karazin Kharkov National University, Baltic International Academy (Latvia), Latvian Academic Library of the University of Latvia, Y. Kondratyuk Poltava National Technical University.

The seminar topic was the book as historical, philosophical, cultural, sociological, library and publishing phenomenon. The seminar gathered representatives from Ukraine, Poland, Latvia, Serbia and Belarus.

As part of the seminar, a guest session was held at Poltava University. During a real-time videoconference reports of specialists of Baltic International Academy (Riga) were delivered, and the “Poltava Series” by Kharkov publishing house “Saga” was presented.

Also a meeting with Russian bibliophile A. Vengerov and a presentation of the book “Bibliokhronika 1550–1975” about his private book collection took place at the seminar.

On May 5, the 205th anniversary of the birth of Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872), the world-famous composer and conductor, our countryman, who made a significant contribution to the formation of Belarusian musical culture, is celebrated. By this date, the National Library of Belarus has updated the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created five years ago, and now replenished with new unique materials.

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.
