Within the bounds of the official visit to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan of the Belarusian delegation led by President Alexander Lukashenko, the memorandum of mutual understanding between national libraries of Belarus and Pakistan was signed.
Signing of the memorandum took place during a visit to the National Library of Pakistan made by Minister of Culture of Belarus Boris Svetlov, Minister of Information of Belarus Lilia Ananich, and director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky. Within the bounds of the meeting of Belarusian delegates with representatives of the National Library of Pakistan and the Library Association of Pakistan, the parties exchanged opinions on the current state condition of librarianship and book publishing in Belarus and Pakistan and considered the prospects of cooperation between two countries.
The National Library of Pakistan hosted a seminar dedicated to the current state and new opportunities in interaction between national libraries of Belarus and Pakistan. At the seminar director Roman Motulsky presented the National Library of Belarus as the high-level information, social and cultural centre playing an important role in social and economic development of the country.
The expansion of cooperation in the field of library science between Belarus and Pakistan assumes two following trends: participation of representatives of national libraries of both countries in science and practical conferences and seminars held in Belarus and Pakistan; publication in professional editions of articles about the current state of librarianship in both countries; book-exchange between two national libraries; joint book exhibitions and other events; projects on opening the Belarusian information and cultural centre named after F. Skorina in the National Library of Pakistan.
According to the official visit programme, director of the National Library Roman Motulsky also took part in the first Pakistani-Belarusian and investment forum and events with the participation of head of state Alexander Lukashenko, and also in a number of negotiations of Minister of Culture Boris Svetlov and Minister of Information of Lilia Ananich.
