New Local History Electronic Edition of the Library

New Local History Electronic Edition of the Library
Other news

Another CD has been released from a number of electronic editions of the National Library of Belarus, which introduces the information heritage of different places in Belarus, their history and cultural legacy.

The publication is dedicated to Novogrudok, one of the iconic and most ancient cities of our country, which is almost a millennium old. Novogrudok has a special place in our history: once it played the role of a political and administrative centre of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, for centuries it was the environment of spiritual, religious and cultural life. This is the small homeland of many famous personalities who became famous not only in their own land, but also gained worldwide fame.

The multimedia edition has been prepared as part of the applied research work "Virtual Reconstruction of Documents and Materials on the Regional History of Belarus", which the National Library has been carrying out over the past few years in cooperation with the library, archival, museum and educational institutions of our country. CD “Navagrudak. Navagradak. Novogrudok Nowogródek: Ancient Town in Documents and Materials” was prepared in cooperation with the Novogrudok Regional Library.

There are plenty of materials on the history of Novogrudok and its environs. The city is mentioned in various sources: chronicles, memoirs, act and legislative collections, cartographic, pictorial documents, scientific, literary, historical and local history publications.

Many documents, facts, personalities and events of the history of the city from the ancient times to the first half of the 20th century were identified, generalized and introduced into scientific circulation. Digital copies of authentic documents were created, bibliographic, illustrative, biographical, reference and other interesting materials were prepared. All this is combined in a common at a base and can be accessed from a single point.

The electronic edition, which is of particular relevance in connection with the Year of Native Land, organically complements the previous editions of the National Library on local history, showing the unique corners of our country. We hope that the CD “Navagrudak. Navagradak. Novogrudok Nowogródek: Ancient Town in Documents and Materials" will be of interest to a wide range of users (scientists, teachers, students and postgraduates, librarians, local history experts, museum and archival staff, the national history enthusiasts) and will contribute to their research, educational, professional activities, the desire to study their native land ...

The edition can be purchased at the kiosk on the first floor of the National Library of Belarus.
